The riding school was founded by Izak Visser on 5th February 2005. Izak started his riding career at the age of 3 in the Show Ring at the annual Worcester and Robertson Show. Since then he represented the Western Cape several times in both Tent Pegging and Western Mounted Games. He also achieved his South African Colours numerous times in Tent Pegging as junior rider and is well know under the Western Cape horse riding community.
"My love for horses goes back as far as I can remember. There are so many things that are perfect about them. I find every one of them fascinating, different and unique. Each has its own way of doing things. Some horses are just simply magnificent. My goal is to bring horses to their full potential without ever sacrificing the trust and softness we have developed together."
Horse riding provides excellent therapy for hyperactive children and also develops self discipline, coordination and accountability. Green Acres Riding School has a place for each and every rider – from beginners to intermediate, from young to old, every shape and size, short or tall. We have a place for you in our family!
We are not a competing riding school and focus more on learning and teaching our riders more about horses in general, horsemanship, stable management, taking the time to build trust and establish a confident, balanced and harmonious partnership between horse and rider and a basic introduction to the various riding disciplines. These disciplines include Dressage, Show jumping, Showing, Tent Pegging, Mounted Games (Boeresport) and Western Mounted Games.
On rainy days we do theory lessons. You will be told how to tell the horse’s age through his teeth, cleaning of the horses, the horses hoof etc.
Other activities include fun-filled trail rides in the Bottelary Winelands, December holiday programmes, pony rides at pre-primary schools and church bazaars, weddings, matric farewells and kiddies parties on Sundays which the whole family and friends can attend. These parties include unlimited horse riding, animal feeding, tractor rides and picking carrots.
The riding school do compete actively in Tent Pegging and Western Mounted Games. During the past years many of our riders represented the Western Cape in both Western Mounted Games and Tent Pegging. Some of our riders also achieved their South African Colours in Tent Pegging.
Green Acres has a small intimate yard with 28 stables. We have a lunge ring, dressage and grass jumping arena. Jumping equipment and assistance is available. The lease of riding school horses is also an option.
